Israel has shipped their first 5o samples for DNA profiling. This progress is thanks to all the fundraising efforts of Prize4Life. Overall, Project MinE now includes over 8,000 DNA profiles.
Israel has securely sent the 50 DNA samples of ALS patients for routine DNA quality controls at the UMC Utrecht in the Netherlands. After this preparatory lab work, the samples were sequenced at our whole genome sequencing provider Illumina in San Diego, USA. All whole genome sequencing data will soon be sent over the wire to our storage partner SURFsara at the Amsterdam data tower. From there the data will be available for the international researchers for analyses.
Comparisons of DNA of patients and controls will generate new findings on genetic causes of ALS/ MND.
