Spain contributed another 72 DNA profiles to Project MinE, the worldwide groundbreaking project to find the genetic causes of ALS. This great progress is thanks to donations to Fundela, the Spanish ALS Association.

These samples have been analysed with whole genome sequencing, reading every single letter of the six billion letter genome. The researchers will now compare the DNA profiles of patients and controls to find the genetic causes of ALS.

With this new batch of samples included, Spain has contributed 432 samples, representing 57% of their target. Their aim is to contribute 750 samples of Spanish patients and healthy controls in total.

Worldwide, over 9,000 DNA profiles have been sequenced for project MinE. This is the largest whole genome sequencing dataset that has ever been available and will tremendously speed up our search for treatments for ALS.
