Ruud Berkers (27), Pieter Mostert (62) and Jeanette Mostert (27) have been training for over a year now, as a preparation for their first marathon ever, the Amsterdam Marathon, October 19th. Why? No running without dedication! But dedication to yourself is not enough, it lacks a cause. We choose ALS. Why? Well, running a marathon requires the courage to go beyond the boundaries of what you know about yourself and is comfortable for yourself. The same is true for research on ALS. All the knowledge that is currently available helps very little in understanding ALS and its causes. We need to move beyond, we need to show tenacity. Giving up is not an option.
Pieter and Jeanette – father and daughter – run together and discuss the world, and how to make it a better place. Ruud and Jeanette – PhD students in brain research – run together and are convinced that running undeniably is a mental activity.
Join us and move across the borders of what you know. Read about ALS, find out who you know is suffering from ALS and support ‘Project MinE’. That is how it started for us, on the day that Jeanette heard that a close friend’s husband was diagnosed with ALS.
We will run 42.2km, in Amsterdam; our target is 4 hours. More important we train, daily, weekly, monthly. We’ve been training for over a year now, but in the coming two months we will really need to run a lot. Train – train – train.
You can encourage us by giving a donation. It will encourage our dedication, but more importantly, it will speed up genetic research into the causes of ALS. And that’s what really matters.

Today Ruud and Jeanette went for a 20km training run. While enjoying the beautiful nature of the Ooijpolder, just outside Nijmegen, we also discussed plans to raise awareness for our campaign. The result is this video: http://youtu.be/khLL5lfnVWM
